About Body Practice
What is Body Practice?
Body Practice is a bodyweight-only gym where students are invited to attend classes aimed at gaining a higher understanding of how to better inhabit and control their vehicle—i.e., their body. Our mission is to empower individuals by enhancing their physical literacy, strength, and control through our three core offerings: Animal Flow, Yoga, Bodyweight Strength Training.
“Be Fluid, Be Still, Be Strong”
The motto represents our three main tenets of Body Practice. While these align with our core offerings—Animal Flow, Yoga, and Bodyweight Strength Training—the philosophy extends far beyond the classes.
1. Be Fluid
Fluidity represents the ability to move with grace and adaptability, both physically and mentally. Physically, fluidity can be developed through practicing Animal Flow, Yoga, or our accessory Dance classes. However, fluidity also encompasses how we navigate conversations or handle obstacles throughout the day, embodying the absence of rigidity and the presence of adaptability in all aspects of life.
2. Be Still
Stillness is an essential aspect of our practice, embodying tranquility and focus. In Yoga, stillness manifests in holding poses and maintaining balance. Beyond the physical, stillness can be cultivated through meditation, breath control, learning patience, or quieting the external noise of daily life. It’s about finding inner peace amidst chaos. Effortful stillness might involve holding an isometric position, like a handstand, demonstrating that stillness doesn’t mean a lack of effort but a focused and deliberate control.
3. Be Strong
Strength is the ability to generate force and overcome resistance. It complements the suppleness of fluidity, creating a balanced approach to fitness. Our Musculo-skeletal system thrives on resistance and load, essential for building healthy tissues and bones. At Body Practice, strength training means competing with yourself to achieve one more rep, improve execution, and gain a clearer understanding of your capacity. The lessons learned in bodyweight strength classes are designed to transfer into every part of your life, enhancing both physical and mental resilience.
At Body Practice, our motto—Be Fluid, Be Still, Be Strong—encapsulates a holistic approach to fitness and personal growth. Join us to explore and embody these principles, both in and out of the gym.
